Kathmandu-The government is planning a global investment roadshow to attract foreign investors to Nepal.
The government is currently amending laws and regulations to implement recommendations aimed at encouraging private sector participation and foreign investment. Once those legal reforms are completed, it plans to launch a global tour to promote Nepal as an investment destination.
The strategy involves working with domestic investors, representatives of foreign companies already operating in Nepal, and diplomatic missions to introduce legal and structural reforms. After that, a government delegation will embark on an international roadshow carrying a renewed investment message.
Backed by a new majority government, a commitment to good governance, and a fresh political mandate, the government plans to visit key international markets with a concrete reform agenda to attract foreign investment. The Ministry of Finance will coordinate the initiative.
Before the tour begins, the government must appoint ambassadors and a Chief Executive Officer for the Investment Board Nepal. Once those appointments are made, the itinerary and schedule for the international roadshow will be finalised.
According to officials at the Ministry of Finance, discussions are still at a preliminary stage. The proposed tour will include interactions with investors, business organisations, and policymakers, along with efforts to arrange high profile business meetings. Leadership of each meeting will depend on the investment portfolio and sector involved. Officials believe meetings with leading global business figures and billionaires would carry particular significance and are expected to be pursued.
Prime Minister Balendra Shah believes the global investment tour should be led by the finance minister. Although he has received an invitation to attend the World Economic Forum, Shah has already indicated that the finance minister should represent Nepal instead.
