Kathmandu-There has been a slight decline in the import of electric commercial vehicles. Statistics show that 336 electric commercial vehicles were imported in April.

Dozens of brands of electric commercial vehicles are being imported into the Nepali market. Electric vans and microbuses with capacities ranging from 11 seats to 14 and more than 16 seats are being imported in significant numbers. Likewise, imports of minibuses and large electric buses have also increased recently.

Similarly, small and medium-sized electric trucks used for carrying goods are being imported from China and India. Imports of such pickup trucks and mini trucks are increasing for urban areas and short- to medium-distance cargo transportation.

Not only imports, but the entry of new brands is also rising. As imports continue to grow, sales are also increasing. However, despite the rise in brands and imports, adequate service centers and spare parts availability have not kept pace. Businesses will need to expand service and spare parts networks across the country.

From schools to tourism businesses, and from short to medium routes, operators are increasingly choosing electric vans and microbuses. Due to significantly lower operating costs, electric commercial vehicles are becoming more preferred over diesel commercial vehicles.
