Kathmandu- Nepal’s leading internet service provider, WorldLink Communications Ltd, has launched a community-based digital literacy and safe internet awareness initiative under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, aiming to promote responsible online behaviour and strengthen cyber safety.

The initiative, branded as the WorldLink Internet Academy, is the first community-focused digital literacy programme of its kind introduced by the company in Nepal.

From Shrawan 2082 to Jestha 2083 (mid-July 2025 to mid-June 2026), WorldLink organised a series of training and awareness sessions that directly benefited 392 people across communities in the Kathmandu Valley.

The programme was introduced in response to the growing risks associated with increasing internet use, including cybercrime, online fraud, privacy violations and the spread of misinformation. The company said equipping children, young people and communities with the knowledge to use the internet safely and responsibly has become increasingly important.

According to WorldLink, the training materials have been reviewed and approved by the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police for use in schools and community programmes, enhancing the quality, credibility and effectiveness of the initiative.

“As digital technology becomes an integral part of daily life, digital literacy and online safety are essential skills for every citizen,” said Anupa Bhandari Jalan, Promoter Shareholder and CSR Director of WorldLink.

Earlier this fiscal year, the programme benefited around 1,490 students from 19 schools in Changunarayan Municipality, Bhaktapur. Following positive feedback from schools and growing demand from local communities, the company expanded the initiative beyond educational institutions.

This year, WorldLink conducted 12 community training sessions in collaboration with the Women Human Rights Organisation, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Wards 9 and 10, and all wards of Tokha Municipality. The sessions saw strong participation from Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs) and local residents.

The training covered responsible internet use, digital literacy, online safety, cyberbullying, personal data protection, digital harassment, online scams and the identification of fake news, providing participants with practical skills to navigate the digital world safely.

A Female Community Health Volunteer who attended the training said the programme had improved her understanding of digital security and encouraged her to use online platforms more responsibly. She added that she would share the knowledge with her family and the wider community.

With internet adoption continuing to grow across Nepal, WorldLink said it plans to expand the initiative to more communities in the coming years as part of its efforts to promote digital inclusion and foster a safer online environment.
