Kathmandu- Following the merger between two top digital payment platforms, IME Pay and Khalti, their operation under the unified brand ‘Khalti by IME’ is commencing from July 17.
Now, the merged entity has become the country’s largest digital wallet in terms of user base, capital, and market reach.
The newly formed company, IME Khalti Limited, boasts a paid-up capital of over Rs 540 million, serving approximately 12.7 million users with seamless digital transaction services.
This merger is expected to strengthen Nepal’s digital payment infrastructure while expanding financial inclusion.
Each platform brought nearly a decade of experience and a distinct identity. IME Pay was known for offering interest on wallet balances, especially in remittance and transport fare payments.
Khalti gained popularity among younger users for tech-friendly features like movie ticket bookings, event pass purchases, and more.
The unified app now promises users a more secure, efficient, and integrated experience.
For existing users, the transition process is simple. IME Pay users can transfer their balances, interest earnings, and reward points to the new platform. Khalti users can continue using services by updating their app.
IME Pay was previously operated by the IME Group, while Khalti was founded by entrepreneurs and later backed by investors including WorldLink and Triveni Group. The leadership of the merged company will be jointly held by representatives from both sides.
Krishna Prasad Sharma, chairperson of IME Digital Solutions, stated the merger would elevate Nepal’s digital transformation.
Khalti Chairperson Manoj Kumar Agrawal described the union as historic, aimed at expanding financial access across the country. CEO Binay Khadka announced upcoming initiatives to boost digital literacy and build a more inclusive financial ecosystem.
IME Pay has been recognized with the 2080 Information Technology Services Award and various international fintech honors. Khalti has earned multiple innovation awards and received special recognition from Nepal Rastra Bank for its contribution to digital transactions.
