FNJ criticized judicial takedowns issued without proper verification

Kathmandu-The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has drawn attention to an interim order issued by the Kathmandu District Court, which directs Biznessnews to remove news report about Cimex Inc. Pvt. Ltd., the official distributor of BYD electric vehicles in Nepal.

'The court extended the interim order issued on June 8, 2026 (Jestha 25, 2083), ordering Business Venture Media Pvt. Ltd. to halt all publication, broadcasting, and further distribution of the news material across its online platforms until a final ruling is reached, and to immediately delete the existing content stated the Online Journalists Association, an associate organ of the federation.'

The FNJ said that the order does not seem to be in line with the provision in 5 (8) of the Journalists' Code of Conduct 2073 that news published/broadcast from online media should not be removed (post delete).

The FNJ has stated that it is understood that the order is also inconsistent with the jurisdiction of the Press Council Nepal, established by law to verify the veracity of news.
