Kathmandu- The foundation stone for the construction of the Shree Janajyoti Secondary School building in Kalikot district was laid on Thursday under India’s High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) programme.

According to the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, the project will be implemented in Sannitriveni Rural Municipality Ward No. 4 with financial assistance of approximately Rs 93 million from the Government of India.

The embassy said the project is the first HICDP being implemented in Kalikot district and is expected to improve educational infrastructure and create a better learning environment for students and teachers in the area.

Representatives of Sannitriveni Rural Municipality and other local stakeholders welcomed the support and expressed confidence that the new school building would contribute to the development of quality education in the community.

In a video message, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava conveyed his best wishes to all stakeholders involved in the project. He reiterated India’s commitment to working closely with Nepal to promote shared growth and prosperity.

The embassy noted that since the launch of the HICDP programme, India has undertaken nearly 600 development projects across 74 districts in Nepal. Of these, 18 projects are located in Karnali Province.

India has also provided 56 ambulances and 14 school buses to institutions in Karnali Province, including four ambulances and two school buses in Kalikot district, according to the embassy.

The Government of India said the implementation of such community development projects reflects its continued support for Nepal’s efforts to strengthen infrastructure and promote socio economic development in priority sectors.
