Kathmandu-Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Kumari Yadav has urged the United States to ensure continued market access for Nepali products by extending the Nepal Trade Preference Program, which is set to expire in December 2025.

During a courtesy meeting with Chargé d'Affaires of US Embassy  Scott Urbom  at the ministry on Thursday, Minister Yadav emphasized the importance of renewing the trade preference scheme, introduced in 2015, to sustain and expand Nepal's exports to the US market.

She also called for strengthening bilateral trade and investment by activating the mechanism under the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) through regular dialogue between the two countries.

Highlighting recent policy and legal reforms, Yadav said Nepal has created a more investment-friendly environment and is committed to attracting greater US investment.

She encouraged US investors to explore opportunities in hydropower and renewable energy, tourism infrastructure, agro-processing, manufacturing, and the digital economy, according to her secretariat.

Responding to the minister's remarks, Urbom said the United States is positive about continuing trade concessions for Nepal and promoting increased bilateral investment.
