Blending tradition with business: Newa snacks on Tokha street (In Photos)

Kathmandu-Traditional dishes are not just about filling your stomach-they’re a whole vibe. They go beyond the basic tastes of sweet, salty, spicy, tangy, bitter, and sour, deeply rooted in culture and tradition, reflecting the soul of a country. These dishes tell stories of families, communities, and entire nations.

However, here’s the challenge: with urban snacks becoming increasingly popular, these traditional flavors are being overshadowed. It’s time to bring them back into the spotlight.

Guess what? Tokha, a charming area in northern Kathmandu, is doing just that with the Tokha Newa Street Food Festival. Every Saturday, Tokha’s streets transform into a foodie’s paradise.

From the main gate to Ganeshsthan Temple, locals and tourists alike dive into a spread of traditional Newa dishes bursting with flavor. It’s not just about the food; it’s an immersive cultural experience.

This amazing event is a collaborative effort by Tokha Municipality, Newa Guthi, and the Tokha Cultural Heritage Conservation Development Committee, working together to preserve history and flavor for future generations.
