Kathmandu-Senior Vice President of the Computer Association of Nepal Federation, Chiranjibi Adhikari, said data centers and cloud services form the backbone of Nepal’s digital economy.

Speaking at the CAN B2B Summit 2025 held on Saturday, Adhikari said Nepal cannot achieve its digital goals without strong digital infrastructure. He said technology has moved beyond convenience and now drives the economy. He added that digital transformation cannot sustain without secure data storage.

He said cloud services are essential for startups and large industries alike. Cloud infrastructure reduces heavy capital spending on servers and security. He said reliable cloud systems are critical to convert young Nepalis’ interest in e commerce, fintech, and IT service exports into tangible results.

Referring to global projections, Adhikari said the data center market is expected to cross 602 billion dollars by 2030. He said countries such as Estonia, Singapore, and India have advanced through sustained investment in digital infrastructure. Nepal, he said, should not delay similar efforts.

Adhikari acknowledged cybersecurity risks and a shortage of skilled manpower in Nepal. He outlined three priority reforms.

He called for clear and investment friendly laws on data protection, cybersecurity, and data localization. He stressed the need for cooperation between universities and industry to produce market ready professionals. He urged effective use of the Telecommunications Development Fund to extend digital services beyond Kathmandu into rural areas.

Adhikari said Nepal can position itself as a South Asian tech hub by using its strategic location. He said the current period is suitable for attracting foreign investment through public private partnerships.

Concluding the summit, he thanked sponsors, exhibitors, and CAN Federation members at all levels. He said collective effort remains key to advancing Nepal’s technology sector.
