Kathmandu-Nepal Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (NMICS) by the National Statistics Office  in 2024-25 fiscal year shows strong growth in access to electricity, telephone and internet services across the country.

About 96.7 percent of households have access to a reliable electricity source. Gandaki Province records the highest electricity access at 99.5 percent, while Karnali Province records the lowest at 80.8 percent. The gap shows continued difficulty in expanding services in remote and geographically challenging areas.

Telephone services are available in 95.5 percent of households through fixed line or mobile networks. Access remains higher in urban and more developed provinces, while remote regions still lag.

Around 82 percent of households use internet enabled devices. Urban areas show stronger internet access, while rural coverage remains limited. This showed the need for targeted policies to ensure equal digital access.

Among people aged 15 to 49, about 81.6 percent of women own mobile phones and 72.7 percent used them in the last three months. Among men in the same age group, 90.4 percent own mobile phones and 78.7 percent used them recently.

The office states that improved access to electricity and communication services supports education, health care, financial services, public service delivery and economic activity. The report calls for long term planning, more infrastructure investment and stronger digital literacy to reduce regional and rural urban gaps.
