Kathmandu- Nepal earned a record Rs 29.32 billion from electricity exports to India and Bangladesh in the fiscal year 2025 to 2026 (2082/83), up nearly 68 percent from the previous year, according to the Nepal Electricity Authority.
Electricity exports rose 62.9 percent to 3.88 billion units, while import volumes fell 31.6 percent, reducing import costs by more than 18 percent to Rs 10.56 billion.
As a result, Nepal recorded a net electricity trade surplus of Rs 18.76 billion, more than four times higher than the previous fiscal year.
The NEA attributed the strong performance to higher hydropower generation, expanded cross border transmission capacity and improved energy management.
