Kathmandu -Airline operators have suspended flights to the Everest region, citing escalating safety concerns.

The Airlines Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN) issued a statement announcing the immediate suspension of all flights to the area.

Sagarmatha National Park, Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality, and various local youth groups and organizations have opposed helicopter flights and landings within the national park. They argue that such activities threaten the safety of forests, the environment, and the habitat of wildlife.

Despite multiple discussions between AOAN representatives and concerned authorities regarding the restrictions on helicopter flights, no resolution has been achieved.

Currently, helipads in the Khumbu region have been obstructed with flags, complicating emergency landings. The AOAN has expressed concerns that even in urgent situations, there are no suitable locations available for safe landing.

Local groups have reportedly issued warnings against aircraft crews attempting to land, with some threats being shared through media outlets. Due to the lack of guaranteed safety for helicopters, the association has decided to suspend operations until full security assurances are provided.

Additionally, scheduled airline operators in the region have signaled their intention to gradually suspend flights if adequate security measures are not implemented.
