Lamjung- Residents of Marsyangdi will soon benefit from a new initiative providing up to 50 units of free electricity each month, as announced by the local government.

This programme, titled 'Income from hydropower, investment in bright Marsyangdi,' is set to launch next year, pending approval from the village assembly. Village Chairman Arjun Gurung highlighted that the initiative is part of a broader policy aimed at supporting local households, with a budget of Rs 5.5 million allocated for its implementation.

The municipality, which comprises 4,409 households across nine wards, expects to generate approximately Rs 40 million in electricity royalties in the upcoming year. Bigyan Paudel, the chief administrative officer, noted that the funding for the free electricity will come from these royalties, derived from local hydropower production.

Currently, the area produces around 100 megawatts of electricity from eight projects, including significant contributions from the Upper Marsyangdi 'A' project and the Nyadi hydropower project. Additionally, a new 50 MW hydroelectric project is under construction, which will enhance the region's energy capacity and connectivity with Besishahar Municipality.-RSS
