Kathmandu- The government will begin issuing passports through a new system from July 13, aiming to make passport services more efficient, user friendly and reliable.

Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, the ministry's spokesperson, Lok Bahadur Paudel Chhetri, said the new system has been introduced to provide citizens with simpler, faster and more effective passport services.

Chhetri said the passport system has been upgraded and preparations by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Passports are nearly complete. He acknowledged that some minor technical issues may arise during the initial phase of implementation but expressed confidence that passport services would remain smooth and uninterrupted.

He reiterated the ministry's commitment to ensuring that citizens receive accessible, simple and efficient passport services.
According to Chhetri, the government has introduced three key measures in line with its policy to make passport services more timely, reliable and technology driven while improving public access.

He said the government has already signed an agreement with the Department of Postal Services to ensure that printed passports are delivered promptly to the respective District Administration Offices and Area Administration Offices.

Chhetri also said the government has begun the process of allowing citizens to apply for passports from any district, a move expected to make passport services more citizen friendly and convenient.
