Kathmandu - The iconic American motorcycle brand Harley-Davidson is set to re-enter the Nepali market. 

Previously, in 2018, Harley-Davidson entered Nepal through an official distributor but halted operations due to low sales. 

Now, it has been confirmed that the brand will return through a new official distributor.  

Harley-Davidson, a dream brand for motorcycle enthusiasts, gained significant attention in Nepal when former Crown Prince Paras Shah brought it to the country.

 With over a century of motorcycle manufacturing history, Harley-Davidson is a renowned American brand.  

In 2018, IME Motors, under the IME Group, introduced Harley-Davidson to the Nepali market, bringing models like Fat Boy, XG 750 A, and V Bob 250. 

However, sales were impacted after then-Finance Minister Yubaraj Khatiwada significantly increased taxes on high-capacity, expensive motorcycles, making imports costly. 

By 2022-23, Harley-Davidson imports stopped, and IME Motors closed its official showroom, built at a cost of Rs 15 million.  

Now, the Chaudhary Group, instead of the IME Group, is set to bring Harley-Davidson back to Nepal. 

The group, either through CG Motors or a new company, will serve as the official distributor.

 Source from NADA confirm that the Chaudhary Group has secured a stall to showcase Harley-Davidson motorcycles at the NADA Auto Show 2025.  

Harley-Davidson’s distinctive looks and style have always attracted enthusiasts

. More powerful models than those brought by Paras Shah are currently seen on Nepali roads. 

The popular Fat Boy model was imported in 2019 and registered in Nepal. IME Automotives had previously sold two Fat Boy motorcycles and around a dozen other models, with a showroom established in Gaihridhara.  

It is not yet confirmed which Harley-Davidson models the Chaudhary Group will bring to the NADA Auto Show.

 The brand appoints official distributors for the Asia-Pacific region through its Singapore office, and the motorcycles will be imported from there, likely transported by air, as was done previously with the Fat Boy.  

CG Motors, under the Chaudhary Group, is already the official distributor for Hero MotoCorp’s motorcycles and scooters in Nepal. 

In India, Hero MotoCorp handles Harley-Davidson’s sales and services.  

Harley-Davidson remains a top choice for motorcycle enthusiasts in Nepal, but its high price limits its accessibility.

Details about the models and their prices under the Chaudhary Group are yet to be disclosed.  

In 2018-19, one Fat Boy, four Iron 883 models, and one unspecified model were imported. In 2019-20, 13 XG 750 A models were imported, and in 2020-21, five V Bob 250 models and one other model were brought into Nepal, according to available data.
