Sarlahi- An inadequate irrigation facility impacted this year spring paddy (chaite dhan) cultivation in Sarlahi, with only  50 hectares of land being used of the total 691 hectares .

The insufficient irrigation supply affected the paddy cultivation, the locals complained.

'It is dry season. An inadequate  irrigation facility hindered us  in the cultivation of spring rice,' says a local farmer of Sarlahi  Ramadhar Raya lamented.

According to him, most of the farmers had used pump sets and electric motors for water supply. Yet it did not sustain for long.

Farmers have been persuaded to grow paddy through  the Prime Minister Modernization Project, yet the area are dwindling. 

Rice is grown on 45,950 hectares in Sarlahi , producing 167 thousand metric tons in one year , Project Chief Senior,  Rambalam Prasad Saha informed. 

Despite the soil here  is suitable  for varieties of crops,  the farmers are disinterested in transplanting a chaite dhan.

The project that introduced in  the fiscal year, 2077/78, now focusing to grow spring paddy on some wards including Haripurwa municipality and Parsa rural municipality in the district.

The farmers have been provided agricultural and irrigation tools along with training.

Despite this effort, only 50 hectares of land  is used for the spring paddy, according to Agriculture Knowledge Centre.-RSS
