Marriott expands Nepal footprint to 8 hotels with new CG and Shesh Ghale agreements

Kathmandu-Marriott International Chairman David S. Marriott visited Nepal for the first time and announced three new luxury hotel projects in Nepal and India with CG Hospitality Global.

At a special event in Kathmandu on Sunday, Marriott International and CG Hospitality signed an agreement to build The Ritz-Carlton Kathmandu, The Westin Kathmandu, and JW Marriott Hotel Siliguri in India.

David S. Marriott said the agreement is an important milestone in the partnership between Marriott International and CG Corp Global. He said the new hotels will create jobs, boost tourism, and increase economic opportunities.

He described Kathmandu as a city rich in history, culture, and hospitality. He also said Nepal is an important market for Marriott because of its natural beauty and growing tourism infrastructure.

Marriott first entered Nepal with Kathmandu Marriott Hotel in Naxal-Nagpokhari, which opened in 2019. The hotel has 215 rooms and was developed with an investment of around Rs 4 billion by MS Group.

Later, Fairfield by Marriott opened in Thamel as a mid-scale international hotel brand. Moxy Kathmandu also opened in Kamaladi as a lifestyle hotel targeting young travelers.

The historic five-star hotel The Soaltee Kathmandu now operates under Marriott’s Autograph Collection brand.

CG Hospitality and Marriott are also developing The Ritz-Carlton Kathmandu and The Westin Kathmandu, both targeting the ultra-luxury market.

Former NRNA President Shesh Ghale is also building The Luxury Collection Kathmandu in Lainchaur under Marriott’s luxury brand. The project is expected to cost around Rs 15 billion and will include 222 rooms in a 17-story building.

With these projects, Marriott now has eight major hotel brands in Nepal:

Kathmandu Marriott Hotel
Fairfield by Marriott Kathmandu
Aloft Kathmandu Thamel
Moxy Kathmandu
The Soaltee Kathmandu – Autograph Collection
The Ritz-Carlton Kathmandu (under construction)
The Westin Kathmandu (under construction)
The Luxury Collection Kathmandu (under construction)

Marriott’s expansion is helping Nepal grow as a luxury and premium hospitality destination in South Asia. Large investments from CG Hospitality and Shesh Ghale are expected to attract more foreign investment and improve tourism infrastructure in Nepal.
