Kathmandu-Most motorcycles and scooters sold in Nepal are now assembled locally, with importers setting up assembly plants. Companies are now sharing existing plants instead of building new ones.

Vishal Group and Vaidya’s Organization have agreed to assemble motorcycles and scooters through a shared facility. Vishal Group sells motorcycles and scooters from Suzuki Motor Corporation, while Vaidya’s Organization became the official distributor of the Italian brand Morbidelli and sells electric scooters from Ather Energy.

Vishal Group set up an assembly plant in Bindabasini Rural Municipality, Parsa, which produces Suzuki motorcycles and scooters. The plant has modern facilities and a large capacity, but it has not been fully utilized. To address this, the two companies chose to share the plant, with Vaidya’s Organization not building a separate facility for Morbidelli.

In the first phase, five Morbidelli models will be assembled in the same plant, with future models also being assembled there.

United Traders Syndicate, under Vaidya’s Organization, has started trial production of Morbidelli motorcycles at the Birgunj plant, with certification work ongoing.

Suzuki Motor Corporation’s direct coordination of production allows Morbidelli motorcycles to be assembled in the same facility. United Traders Syndicate imports fully built Morbidelli units and tests CKD kits for five models, planning to launch them in Nepal in Baisakh.

BG Automobiles, Vishal Group’s official distributor in Nepal, has assembled Suzuki motorcycles and scooters locally for over four years. This is the first plant sharing deal.

Vishal Group registered Global Automobiles Pvt Ltd to produce motorcycles, scooters, and three-wheelers, aiming for annual production of 30,000 two-wheelers and 5,000 three-wheelers.

The project involves an investment of Rs 464.59 million and aims to create 150 direct jobs.

The government supports assembly industries through tax policy, offering a 50 percent excise duty waiver and other benefits to CKD kits. Most importers now assemble in Nepal.
