Kathmandu- The government has introduced Euro 6 vehicle emission standards for imported vehicles in Nepal. 

In a bid to reduce harmful pollutants from vehicles, the government has upgraded vehicle emission standards to Euro 6 from Euro 3 starting today. 

The Euro 6 emission standards have been implemented in all four-wheelers.

Likewise, these vehicle emission standards have also been imposed for assembled transports and imported spares and parts. 

However, construction equipment like tractors, power tillers, dozers, crane trucks, rollers and imported special military vehicles on the recommendation of the Ministry of Defense are not mandated to meet the Euro 6 vehicle emission standard. 

Likewise, Euro-V has been required for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and micro-four-wheelers. 

Nepal has enforced Euro 3 standards since the 2012/13 fiscal year, with earlier plans to implement Euro 4 within two years. However, 13 years later, the government is directly moving to Euro 6.

Nepal first introduced emission standards in the 1999/2000 FY, equivalent to Euro 1.

These were revised in 2012 BS to match Euro 3. Since then, repeated attempts to update the standards stalled due to commercial pressure and debate over adopting Euro 4 or Euro 6.
