Karnali-Emergency non-food relief supplies worth Rs 2.36 million have been handed over to Nalgad Municipality in Jajarkot.

The relief materials were provided under the 'Pratibaddha' project, jointly implemented by the European Union (EU), People in Need, Community Self-Reliant Centre, Save the Children and Scot Wilson Nepal.

Ujjwal Adhikari, the Karnali Province coordinator of the People in Need Pratibaddha-3 project, said that the materials handed over to the municipality include 27 family tents, 140 non-food relief kits, 140 dignity kits, and 20 warehouse pallets.

'Non-food relief materials have been handed over to strengthen the disaster preparedness capacity of the local level and ensure effective response during emergencies and climate-related disasters. In the coming days, we will provide warehouse pallets worth an additional 140,000 rupees to the local levels,' he said.

According to the provincial coordinator Adhikari, this aid has been provided under the ‘Crisis Modifier’ initiative. Through this initiative, relief materials worth around Rs 24.8 million are being pre-stocked in 10 local levels of Bagmati, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

This includes Nalgad municipality and Barekot rural municipality in Jajarkot, as well as the local levels in Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa, Pyuthan and Bajhang districts.
He said that these materials will be pre-stored in the municipal warehouse so that they can be deployed immediately during disasters such as earthquakes, floods, landslides and fires.

The non-food relief material set, in case of emergencies, is said to include household essentials and dignity kits that particularly help women and girls maintain personal hygiene, safety, and dignity, and the warehouse pallets help store relief materials safely and make warehouse management more organised.-RSS
