Bhojpur-The Mundhum region offers a compelling journey through steep trails rooted in Kirat heritage.
The route crosses steep hills in Khotang, Bhojpur, Solukhumbu and Sankhuwasabha. It protects the history and identity of the Kirat community.
The trail opened in 2018. It passes through green meadows, dense forests and long quiet stretches. You find homestays in some settlements. Cowsheds offer basic shelter in remote areas. Simple hotels operate around Salpa.
Salpa Pokhari and Silichung are sacred points on the trail. Locals believe Salpa Pokhari is a dwelling place of goddesses. The stories of Sumnima and Paruhang connect directly to this site.
The walk begins at Chakhewa on the Mid hill Highway. You climb from the 2,351 meter pass to the 3,750 meter Salpa Pokhari. The route continues to the 4,153 meter Silichung peak.
Stone markers guide much of the trail. The steep Laure climb still lacks proper upgrades. During the flowering season you see many rhododendron species. You also see champ, katuse, thick forests and useful herbs. Bamboo grows in many sections and you may encounter red pandas.
The trail provides clear views of major Himalayan peaks. You see Everest at 8,848.86 meters, Lhotse at 8,516 meters, Lhotse Shar at 8,382 meters, Makalu at 8,463 meters, Cho Oyu at 8,188 meters and Kanchenjunga at 8,586 meters. You also see Karyolung, Numbur, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kangtega and Baruntse along the route.
