Gandaki- A comprehensive pictorial book documenting the bird species found along the Millennium Trekking Route,connecting Dulegaunda in Tanahun to Rambachha in Syangja,has been officially published.

The publication is a collaborative effort by the Pokhara Bird Society, the Nepal Tourism Board, and the Millennium Trek Promotion and Management Committee.

The book is the culmination of a two-year study led by Manshanta Ghimire, president of the Pokhara Bird Society, and Secretary Hemanta Dhakal. Their research was conducted in four distinct phases to ensure a thorough census of the local avian population.

A total of 300 bird species along the trail have been documented.Each species is presented with high-quality photographs and detailed descriptions to aid identification.
Of them, the book highlights significant sightings of the Kande Bhyakur (Spiny Babbler), the only bird species endemic to Nepal.

The Millennium Trekking Route spans 72 kilometers, with 52 kilometers passing through dense, biodiverse forests. Unlike high-altitude climbs, this trail is accessible to trekkers of all ages and remains open year-round. Beyond its rich wildlife, the route offers panoramic views of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountain ranges.

Harka Gurung, General Secretary of the Millennium Trek Management Committee, stated that the book was published specifically to promote bird-watching tourism. By providing travelers with a reliable field guide, the committee hopes to establish the Millennium Trek as a premier destination for ornithologists and nature enthusiasts alike.-RSS
