Kathmandu- Industrialists operating within the country’s industrial districts have deposited over Rs 460 million into the state treasury as rent for using physical infrastructure up to mid-Ashar.
According to Basudev Sodari, Information Officer at the Industrial Zone Management Limited (IZML), a total of Rs 468.6 million was collected from factories running across 10 different industrial zones.
The move follows strict enforcement by authorities to recover outstanding dues. Prior to the collection drive, more than 300 industries operating nationwide had accumulated arrears worth Rs 880 million (Rs 88 crore).
In a bid to pressure defaulters, IZML has initiated a crackdown on non-paying units.
Sodari confirmed that electricity lines of 10 industries have been disconnected after they failed to clear their long-standing liabilities. Among the heavily indebted firms are two industries under the Continental Group, which collectively owe Rs 40 million in arrears.
