Kathmandu- Shesh Ghale, who has yet to complete a five-star luxury hotel that's been under construction for a decade, has launched another ambitious hospitality project in Nepal.
On October 12, 2014, Ghale had announced an eight-billion-rupee investment for the Kathmandu-based hotel, which still remains unfinished. Now, he has turned his focus to Bhaktapur.
Marking the Nepali New Year, Ghale laid the foundation stone for a new high-end resort at Ghyampedanda, Bhaktapur, with an investment of Rs 4.75 billion. The resort is a joint venture between Ghale’s MIT and Amrit Ratna Shakya’s Implementing Expert Group (IEG), the founder of Summit Hotel.
Spread across 100 ropanis of forested hilltop land with panoramic Himalayan views, the resort will feature 60 villas under a time-share model, an international five-star hotel, and various entertainment and wellness facilities. The site is said to resemble the resting figure of the 'Sleeping Buddha Shakyamuni'.
Designed to blend luxury with heritage, the resort aims to revive traditional architecture and celebrate intangible cultural assets such as performing arts, handicrafts, culinary heritage, and history.
Developers claim the project will be completed by November 2027.
The destination will also house a full-fledged wellness center and focus on promoting a healthy lifestyle. It is expected to become a hotspot for both domestic and international travelers interested in Nepali culture, nature, and music.
The resort will cater to MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) tourism, host international seminars, destination weddings, live music events, and cultural performances. Activities like yoga, meditation, rock climbing, hiking, and cycling will also be part of the experience.
