Kathmandu- Nepal's first locally made electric scooter is set to launch in market by mid-April that is affordable and tailored for Nepal’s geography. 

Developed by Yatri Motorcycle, a prototype of a new E-Scooter is undergoing road testing in different terrains.

Yatri Motorcycle is advancing the scooter project with Sipradi Trading Pvt. Ltd., the authorized distributor of Tata Motors in Nepal. Earlier, Yatri designed and produced two motorcycles in Nepal and sold them in the market.

About one and a half years ago, Sipradi announced a partnership with the startup Yatri to produce electric motorcycles and scooters in Nepal. The companies signed a cooperation agreement after detailed discussions. Yatri then began designing both electric motorcycles and a scooter.

Yatri has completed the scooter design, built the prototype, and started durability testing. The company plans to test a single scooter over 50,000 kilometers. The results will guide mass production.

'After finalizing the design, we began testing the electric scooter we built,' said Yatri Motorcycle founder and CEO Ashim Pandey.

'We are conducting durability testing across the Terai and hilly roads using one scooter,' he said. 'After testing, we will move to mass production.'

Pandey said the company plans to launch a Nepal made electric scooter by mid-April 2026. 

Yatri has also completed the design of its production plant and started construction. The motorcycle and scooter plant will be built in Gajuri, Dhading.

Based on market demand, Yatri plans to launch the scooter first.

Yatri said the scooter is designed to suit Nepal’s geography and local needs. Its market performance will depend on pricing.

The Nepal made electric scooter has now reached the testing stage. Yatri says its electric motorcycles can compete globally. If Sipradi brings the vehicles to market at competitive prices, strong sales are expected.

Yatri Motorcycle was established in 2017 and launched its first model, Project One.Yatri unveiled Nepal’s first electric motorcycle designed and produced in the country in December 2019. The project, developed by young Nepali designers, faced several challenges. During this period, Yatri announced its partnership with Sipradi.

Sipradi, led by Siddhartha Rana, agreed to collaborate with the startup to produce electric motorcycles in Nepal. This gave momentum to plans led by young Nepali engineers.

Sipradi decided to support domestic production after assessing Yatri’s design and engineering capability.
