Kathmandu-The newly formed Executive Committee of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry following its 60th Annual General Meeting is set to elect its Senior Vice-President and Treasurer on Friday at it's Secretariat in Kathmandu.

Under the provisions of the FNCCI Statute-1992, including its seventh amendment, newly elected President Anjan Shrestha has nominated Sur Krishna Vaidya for Senior Vice-President and Manish Lal Pradhan for Treasurer.

The nominations have heightened internal political competition within the FNCCI. 

According to the FNCCI, former committee members  and current executive members have given chance to file candidacies for both posts. Seven members nominated by the president have also been granted voting rights, with the federation stating that the nominations ensured representation of all groups, including at least two women.

The election process was moved ahead after the High Court declined to issue an interim order against an earlier executive committee decision challenged in court.

The contest for Senior Vice-President has become particularly competitive. Candidates in discussion include Hemraj Dhakal, reportedly backed by outgoing President Chandra Dhakal, along with Sura Krishna Vaidya and Ramchandra Sanghai from the Anjan Shrestha panel. Other aspirants include Kishor Pradhan and Bharatraj Acharya.

For Treasurer, names under consideration include Ambika Prasad Poudel, Manish Lal Pradhan, and Bhakta Hamal. Meanwhile, Vice-President Prabal Jung Pandey has reportedly backed Ramchandra Sanghai for Senior Vice-President and Ambika Prasad Poudel for Treasurer.

The  FNCCI’s latest statute amendment has also ended the practice of the Senior Vice-President automatically becoming president. From the next term onward, FNCCI presidents will be elected directly through the general assembly, marking a major shift in the organization’s leadership structure.
