27 public enterprises in profit, 16 still running at loss

Kathmandu-The government has released a report the Annual Status Review of Public Enterprises 2026.

According to the report public enterprises now have assets worth Rs 3.2 trillion. This is 9.49 percent more than the year.

The governments investment in enterprises also increased, went up by 13.44 percent to Rs 798.56 billion. This includes Rs 370.25 billion that the government invested directly and Rs 428.31 billion in loans.

There are 45 enterprises operating in different sectors. These sectors include industry, commerce, services, social services, utilities and finance. Out of these 20 are fully owned by the government. 25 Are mostly owned by the government.

The report also says that most public enterprises operate under ministries. These ministries include the Ministry of Finance Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies and Ministry of Energy Water Resources and Irrigation.

The total income and operating income of enterprises increased slightly. In the year total income was Rs 721.14 billion and operating income was Rs 672.40 billion.

Out of the enterprises that are operating 27 made a profit while 16 made a loss. The total profit of enterprises increased by 12.03 percent to Rs 45.08 billion.

The enterprises that made a profit had a profit of Rs 48.89 billion. On the hand, the enterprises that made a loss had a total loss of Rs 3.80 billion.

The total accumulated profit of enterprises increased by 21.51 percent to Rs 105.45 billion.

The government got Rs 8.37 billion in dividends from enterprises. This is less than the year.

The net worth of enterprises increased by 3.89 percent to Rs 1.073 trillion.

The report also says that public enterprises were expected to give the government Rs 164.96 billion in categories.

There are 38,285 positions, in enterprises but only 30,352 employees are working.

34 Enterprises did not complete their audits on time.

The total administrative and employee expenses of enterprises decreased by 8.36 percent to Rs 61.05 billion.

Unfunded liabilities increased by 10.10 percent to Rs 66.40 billion. Contingent liabilities increased by 3.03 percent to Rs 2.264 trillion.

Some public enterprises are listed on the stock exchange. These enterprises account for 15.08 percent of the market capitalization.

Out of 30 enterprises that the government previously invested in only nine are currently making a profit.
