Banking sector shows recovery as profits rise 19.3 percent in third quarter

Kathmandu-Nepal’s 20 commercial banks show signs of recovery in the current fiscal year 2082/83, based on their third quarter results up to mid March. Profit growth, improved loan quality, and more balanced risk management point to a positive shift in the banking sector.

The 20 commercial banks earned a combined net profit of Rs 49.21 billion during the period, up 19.30 percent from the same period last year.

At the individual level, Nabil Bank Limited led the sector with a net profit of Rs 6.76 billion, marking a 33.92 percent increase.

Global IME Bank Limited ranked second with a profit of Rs 4.40 billion. Kumari Bank Limited followed in third place with Rs 4.17 billion in profit.

Kumari Bank posted the most notable surge, with profit rising by 1,361.76 percent. Rastriya Banijya Bank also reported strong growth of 129.34 percent.

Among others, Himalayan Bank Limited saw profit rise by 52.49 percent to Rs 760 million. Machhapuchchhre Bank Limited posted a 50.43 percent increase to Rs 1.65 billion. Sanima Bank Limited recorded a 42.22 percent rise to Rs 2.35 billion.
