Kathmandu - BYD electric cars in Nepal has found for high repair costs.

A BYD Atto 3, lightly damaged in an accident on September 20, 2024, in Biratnagar, was given a repair estimate of over Rs 5 million by Superior Motors, the official service center.

The repair quote includes 142 parts to be replaced, with the high-voltage battery system alone costing Rs 2.195 million.
One of the Engineers argue the visible damage doesn’t justify replacing the battery or the total cost.

'Looking at the vehicle's photos, there’s no reason to replace the high-voltage battery system. If minor accidents lead to such high repair costs, owning a BYD vehicle could become unsustainable for customers.'

Another engineer suggested two possible issues: either the service center is inflating costs to exploit insurance companies, or the vehicle’s build quality is so poor that a minor accident necessitates replacing critical components.

Photos of the damaged car show it had only small dents and scratches. Despite this, the distributor claimed that 142 parts needed to be replaced, with some listed twice, making the total cost suspiciously high. The parts ranged in price from Rs 577.50 to an eye-popping Rs 2.195 million.

Breaking down the costs, the pre-VAT amount was Rs 4.476 million, and VAT added another Rs 581,988.50, bringing the total to Rs 5.058 million. For comparison, the Atto 3 Advanced version costs Rs 5.69 million, while the Superior version costs Rs 6.78 million in Nepal.
