Foreign Minister lauds India’s contribution to Nepal’s human resource development

Kathmandu- Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has commended India’s role in strengthening Nepal’s human resource development through the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme.

Speaking at the 60th ITEC Day celebration organized by the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Minister Deuba reflected on her own academic experience in India and expressed gratitude for India’s continued support in education and capacity building.

Highlighting the deep-rooted bilateral ties, Deuba emphasized that India’s ITEC programme has played a crucial role in upskilling Nepalese professionals across various sectors. 'India’s initiatives in education and training have not only empowered individuals but have also contributed to Nepal’s overall development,'she said.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, reaffirmed India’s commitment to expanding the programme and introducing customized training courses aligned with Nepal’s evolving priorities.

The event was attended by several Members of Parliament, senior government officials, and ITEC alumni.

In the 2024-25 period, 510 Nepalese professionals received training in India, with specialized courses designed for government engineers, doctors, attorneys, security personnel, and officials from various ministries. Over the past 15 years, more than 3,000 Nepalese have benefitted from the programme.

The celebration also featured cultural performances, including the Mayurbhanj Chau dance by an Indian troupe and instrumental folk fusion by Nepal’s Kanta Dab Dab band.
