Kathmandu-The price of gold in the Nepali market increased by Rs 20,500 per tola on Sunday.
Gold, which was traded at Rs 290,600 per tola on Friday after a rise of Rs 5,600, reached Rs 311,100 per tola on Sunday.
The sharp increase follows the government's decision to double the customs duty on gold. The customs duty, which previously stood at 10 percent, has been raised to 20 percent.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association, the price of silver also increased. Silver, which was traded at Rs 5,040 per tola on Friday, rose to Rs 5,345 per tola on Sunday.
Gold and silver had previously reached their highest-ever prices in the Nepali market on Magh 15, 2082 (January 28, 2026). On that day, gold was traded at Rs 339,300 per tola, while silver was traded at Rs 7,505 per tola.
