Kathmandu- Kaeros International Pvt. Ltd., a car importer in Nepal, is selling the Porsche Macan 4 EV for Rs 36.5 million, despite its actual cost, including taxes and customs, being only Rs 23.3 million. This means Kairos is making a significant profit of Rs 13.2 million per car. Instead of purchasing directly from Porsche, Kaeros imported the vehicle through a fraudulent dealer in Hong Kong, Automobile Universal Development International (AUDI), which has no official ties to Porsche.
Many other luxury EVs in Nepal, including Tesla, Audi, and Jaguar, are also brought in through similar unofficial dealers.
The Real Cost vs. What You’re Paying
The Porsche Macan 4 EV has a CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) value of $65,420, equivalent to Rs 9.08 million at the customs exchange rate of 39.09 per dollar. With its 285 kW motor, the car falls under the 200-300 kW tax slab, incurring a 60 percent customs duty of Rs 5.45 million, bringing the cost to Rs 14.54 million. A 35 percent excise duty adds Rs 5.08 million, raising the price to Rs 19.63 million, followed by a 13 percent VAT of Rs 2.55 million, increasing the total to Rs 22.18 million. Finally, a 5 percent road tax adds Rs 1.1 million, bringing the total landed cost to Rs 23.29 million.
Despite this, Kaeros International is selling the Macan 4 EV at an inflated price of Rs 36.5 million. Even after accounting for transport, insurance, showroom rent, and other expenses, the final price should not exceed Rs 30 to 32.5 million. However, by using fraudulent import methods through a fake Hong Kong dealer, Kairos is overcharging customers significantly. This unofficial import process also leads to issues with warranty, servicing, and spare parts, making it a major concern for buyers.

While the car itself boasts impressive features, the unofficial import process not only inflates prices but also creates long-term problems for customers in terms of maintenance and service availability.
