Kathmandu - Kaeros International Pvt. Ltd. illegally imported a Land Rover Range Rover car through under-invoicing, the Customs Department has confirmed.

The investigation found that Kaeros declared a lower value than the price set by the manufacturer.

Instead of buying directly from the manufacturer or its official dealer, Kaeros created a separate company to import the Land Rover Range Rover Sports. The car entered Nepal after customs clearance on Sunday, the 27th of Magh.

How did an unofficial importer bring in the car, and how did customs approve an illegally imported vehicle?

Biznessnews raised these questions after learning that the Birgunj Dry Port Customs Office cleared the vehicle based on fake documents submitted by Kaeros.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the British luxury carmaker, had already confirmed Biznessnews via an email that it has no official dealer in Nepal. Yet, customs still cleared the Land Rover car.

According to customs law, only manufacturers or their authorized dealers can import vehicles.

Despite JLR’s statement, customs approved the import.

After Biznessnews exposed the issue, the Customs Department launched an investigation.

The investigation concluded that the Land Rover Range Rover Sports car was under-invoiced.

The department has already sent a notice to Kaeros International.

The car's global market price is over 90,000 USD, but Kaeros declared it at just 67,520 USD, including cost, insurance, and freight (CIF).

Kaeros claimed the car was imported from the United States.

Shipping and insurance alone cost at least 4,000–5,000 USD, suggesting that the car itself cost around 60,000 USD—clear evidence of under-invoicing.

In coordination with the Dry Port Customs Office, the Customs Department reviewed documents, international prices, and dealer prices, and fixed the car’s value at 86,000 USD.

The department ordered Kaeros to pay the outstanding customs duties, excise tax, road maintenance fee, VAT, and penalties based on the new value.

Kaeros International is also importing German luxury electric cars from Audi and Porsche using similar illegal methods.

Despite this, customs, the Commerce Department, and the Ministry of Finance have taken no action.

Kaeros is under-invoicing Porsche Taycan and Macan electric cars to evade taxes.

After confirming under-invoicing in the Land Rover case, the Customs Department must now investigate Kaeros’s imports of Porsche and Audi cars.
