Nepal welcomes102,626 tourists in May

Kathmandu-Nepal’s tourism sector continued its impressive upward momentum in May, recording 102,626 International Visitor Arrivals (IVAs), according to data from the Nepal Tourism Board.

The latest figures represent a 19.0 percent  increase compared to May 2025, when 86,216 international visitors arrived in the country, and stand 31 percent  above pre-pandemic May 2019 levels, which recorded 78,329 arrivals.

The strong performance highlights Nepal’s growing appeal as a global travel destination and reflects increasing international confidence in the country’s tourism offerings, ranging from adventure and nature tourism to culture, spirituality, and wellness experiences. (Nepal Tourism Board)

India Remains Nepal’s Largest Tourism Market

Among source markets, India retained its position as Nepal’s largest contributor with 40,782 visitors, accounting for 39.74 percent of total arrivals. China followed with 11,514 visitors (11.22 percent), while the United States contributed 9,001 visitors (8.77 percent).

South Asia Leads Regional Visitor Arrivals

Region-wise, visitors from SAARC countries dominated inbound tourism, contributing 48,461 arrivals (47.2 percent).

Other regional shares included:

Asia (excluding SAARC): 20,462 arrivals (19.9 percent)
Europe: 13,440 arrivals (13.1 percent)
Americas: 10,618 arrivals (10.3 percent)
Others: 4,612 arrivals (4.5 percent)
Oceania: 3,188 arrivals (3.1 percent)
Middle East: 1,511 arrivals (1.5 percent)
Africa: 334 arrivals (0.3 percent)
The distribution demonstrates Nepal’s expanding reach across diverse international markets while maintaining a strong regional tourism base.
