NEPSE soars 31 percent in a year, Market capitalization hits Rs 44 Trillion

Kathmandu – By the end of Chaitra (mid-March to mid-April) 2081/82, Nepal's capital market saw strong growth. The NEPSE index climbed 31.32 percent, rising from 2025.71 to 2662.08 compared to the previous year 2080-81. 

Market capitalization also jumped from Rs 32.12 trillion to Rs 44.25 trillion, adding Rs 12.13 trillion during the period.

By Chaitra's end, NEPSE listed 270 companies, including 132 banks, financial institutions, and insurers; 91 hydropower firms; 22 manufacturing companies; seven hotels; seven investment companies; four trading firms; and seven from other sectors.

Banks, financial institutions, and insurers held the largest market share at 52.7 per cent, followed by hydropower at 15.1 per cent, investment companies at 7.9 percent, trading firms at 5.8 percent, manufacturing at 5.4 percent hotels at 2.6 percent and other sectors at 10.5 percent .

Listed shares totaled 8.72 billion, with a paid-up capital of Rs 859.45 billion. In the nine months of 2081/82, NEPSE added securities worth Rs 52.15 billion, including bonus shares, ordinary shares, rights shares, mutual funds, FPOs, and others.

During the same period, the Securities Board of Nepal approved public issues of securities worth Rs 28.58 billion, including mutual funds, rights shares, debentures, and ordinary shares.
