South Korea temporarily blocks DeepSeek

SEOUL- The South Korean authorities have decided to temporarily block the use of the Chinese artificial intelligence chatbot DeepSeek on the territory of their country, the Personal Information Protection Commission reported.

The decision emphasizes that the block will be lifted after the chatbot’s creators make changes to the operation of DeepSeek 'in accordance with South Korean law.' The commission pointed out that the South Korean authorities sent an official request to the Chinese side last month, asking them to explain the specifics of the chatbot's operation, including those related to the collection of personal data.

South Korea has previously banned the use of DeepSeek by employees of leading energy companies Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) and KEPCO KPS.-TASS
