Kathmandu- Public transport entrepreneurs have withdrawn their strike after reaching an agreement with the government. 

The deal was finalized Monday night during the third round of talks at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.

According to President of the National Federation of Transport Entrepreneurs of Nepal, Vijay Bahadur Swar, they will end all protest programs once the Prime Minister’s Office formally requests the Gandaki Province government to suspend its ride-sharing directive. 

The ministry will begin this process as soon as offices open on Tuesday.

The Gandaki directive, which allows private vehicles (red number plates) to carry passengers, will be paused until a federal law is in place.

The Prime Minister’s Office will send the request, and the Ministry of Home Affairs will act on the Supreme Court’s earlier directive on public transport reform.

Both sides also agreed to form a task force to address public transport issues and recommend reforms in laws, policies, and social security. 

The Ministry of Labor will ensure mandatory enrollment of transport workers in the Social Security Fund.

Transport operators had opposed the province’s move, calling it unfair competition from ride- sharing services.

After talks at the Home Ministry and coordination with Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, the parties reached this agreement.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport will formally forward the agreement to the Cabinet Secretariat and the Gandaki Province government.
