Kathmandu-The government has increased the excise duty on electronic cigarettes (vapes) from 40 percent to 55 percent through the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2026-27.
Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle announced the provision through the Finance Bill 2026 presented along with the new budget. With the increase in excise duty, the price of vapes is expected to rise in the Nepali market.
The use of vapes has significantly increased among youths in Nepal in recent years. Amid growing concerns over vaping, some lawmakers recently urged the government to ban the use of vapes in Nepal during a parliamentary session.
Similarly, the government has also increased the excise duty on tobacco, reconstituted tobacco, and other nicotine-containing products. The excise duty on these products has also been raised from 40 percent to 55 percent.
