Kathmandu- While short-term fluctuations are inevitable, the overall outlook for Nepal’s share market in 2081 appeared positive, backed by growing investor confidence and favorable economic indicators.
After four years of sluggish performance, the stock market began an uptrend at the start of 2081, gaining momentum despite some volatility throughout the year. Over the course of the year, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) rose by 653 points.
The all-time NEPSE high of 3,199 points, recorded on Bhadra 2, 2078 (August 18, 2021), remains a major milestone investors are eager to surpass. Analysts believe that if the current momentum continues, Nepal’s stock market could enter a new bullish phase, drawing even more investors.
The NEPSE, which had ended 2080 at 2,006 points, closed the final trading day of 2081 at 2,662 points. However, on the last trading session of the year, the index dipped slightly by 8.62 points to settle at 2,662.08, with a total trading volume of Rs 6.280 billion.
In 2081, the NEPSE saw significant movement. It soared from 2,240.41 points at the end of Asar to a high of 3,000.81 points by the end of Shrawan. However, after touching the 3,000-point mark on Shrawan 31, the market struggled to maintain momentum, entering a prolonged period of sideways trading that left investors cautious.
Breaking the all-time high of 3,199 points remained a key target. The rapid surge from 2,000 to nearly 3,000 points in less than two months triggered an extended correction phase. Since then, the NEPSE has settled into a relatively narrow range, resisting a drop below 2,600 points.
Year NEPSE Performance Overview:
Asar End: 2,240.41 points
Shrawan End: 3,000.81 points
Bhadra End: 2,580.76 points
Poush End: 2,594.13 points
Magh End: 2,685.73 points
Falgun End: 2,736.48 points
Chaitra End: 2,662.08 points
The NEPSE index also briefly crossed the psychological 2,800-point threshold in Falgun before retreating in Chaitra.
Though predicting stock market trends is always uncertain, many analysts suggest that conditions are favorable for further growth. If the momentum holds, 2082 could see Nepal’s stock market entering a new bullish phase, attracting increased investor participation.
