Kathmandu-Companies listed on Nepal Stock Exchange showed improved financial performance by the second quarter of fiscal year 2025.26.
In the cement sector, Shivam Cement and Sarvottam Cement posted strong profit growth compared with last year. Shivam Cement earned a net profit of Rs 357 million by the second quarter. This is a 528 percent rise from Rs 56.8 million in the same period last year. Sarvottam Cement increased its profit from Rs 241.4 million to Rs 538.3 million.
Sonapur Minerals and Oil moved from loss to profit. The company had a loss of Rs 122 million in the second quarter last year. It reported a profit of Rs 47.5 million this year. The company cited the Gen Z protest movement, the House of Representatives election environment, slow development works, and disputes over dedicated and trunk lines as factors that affected business.
Ghorahi Cement is still in loss but reduced it by about 60 percent. The loss fell from Rs 667.1 million last year to Rs 264.9 million by the second quarter this year.
Profit declined at multinational firm Unilever Nepal. Net profit dropped to Rs 430.9 million in the second quarter. This is about 10 percent lower than Rs 477.8 million in the same period last year. The company cited political instability, weak market demand, rising raw material costs, and depreciation of the Nepali rupee against the US dollar.
Bottlers Nepal Tarai returned to profit with Rs 135.4 million after a loss of Rs 118.9 million last year. Bottlers Nepal Balaju also recovered from a Rs 245 million loss to a profit of Rs 31.2 million.
Himalayan Distillery increased profit from Rs 404.9 million to Rs 448.4 million. Shringar Agritech Industries raised profit from about Rs 5 million to Rs 15.6 million. The company credited cost control, efficiency gains, higher production, and expansion of contract farming and quality seed production and distribution.
Profit at SY Panel Nepal fell to Rs 7.8 million. Nepal Lube Oil kept stable performance with profit at Rs 21.1 million compared with Rs 22 million earlier.
Other mixed results include Sagar Distillery with a loss of Rs 26.1 million, and Reliance Spinning Mills whose profit declined from Rs 188.8 million to Rs 137.4 million.
