US-made drone successfully demonstrated in Everest Region, Enhancing high-altitude operations

Kathmandu- Commercial American drone technology and Nepali mountain expertise have demonstrated new possibilities for high-altitude logistics following the successful testing of the U.S.-manufactured Freefly Alta X Gen2 drone in Nepal's Everest region.

The demonstration, organized by the U.S. Embassy Nepal in collaboration with Seven Summit Treks, took place in June on Ama Dablam, where Nepali drone operators completed multiple flights between Base Camp (4,600 meters) and Yak Camp (approximately 5,050 meters). The drone transported oxygen cylinders and essential equipment across 1.6 kilometers of steep mountain terrain.

Despite facing strong winds and rapidly changing mountain weather, the drone successfully completed every flight, highlighting the reliability, precision, and performance of American-engineered technology in one of the world's most demanding environments.

The successful trials showcased the drone's potential to reduce the physical burden on Sherpas, improve climber safety, and deliver critical supplies more quickly and efficiently during mountain expeditions.

'As the United States marks 250 years of independence, this collaboration carries forward the spirit of exploration and enterprise that has shaped America from its earliest days,' said U.S. Embassy Nepal Chargé d’Affaires Scott Urbom.

Beyond mountaineering, officials said the technology has broad applications across Nepal, including expedition logistics, mountain cleanup, search and rescue, disaster response, and emergency deliveries to remote communities.
