Kathmandu-The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Index recorded a mixed performance over the five trading days of the week, ending with an overall decline despite a slight recovery on the final day.
The benchmark index closed at 2,782.18 points on Thursday, gaining 5.82 points. However, earlier losses weighed heavily on the weekly trend. The market had dropped sharply by 71.05 points in the first session, followed by a 47-point decline in the second. It showed a brief recovery in the third session with a 19.70-point gain, before falling again by 74.73 points in the fourth session.
Over the week, the NEPSE Index declined by a total of 168 points, reflecting sustained selling pressure and volatility in the market.
Trading activity remained strong on the final day. A total of 328 companies were traded, with over 21.3 million shares exchanged in more than 103,000 transactions, generating a turnover of Rs 12.81 billion.
Sector-wise, performance was mixed. Out of 13 sub-indices, seven posted gains while six declined. The trading sector recorded the highest increase at 2.53 percent, indicating selective investor interest despite the broader market weakness.
