Uncertainty in global trade pushes gold to historic highs

Kathmandu- The world is facing more uncertainty as  the U.S. president  Donald Trump has increased taxes on imported goods. Global trade was sluggish recovering from the effects of COVID-19 pandemic, but now there is a new risk of disruption.

Trade was improving in 2024, but 2025 looks uncertain again, especially after  Trump returned as the U.S. president. The U.S. has raised taxes not only on China but also on its own allied countries. Experts believe this could disturb global trade.

Due to rising uncertainty, gold prices have reached a record high.

On Monday, the price of gold in the international market was $3,111 per ounce, the highest ever recorded.

Gold prices have been rising continuously, increasing 7 percent in the last 30 days, 16 percent in the last six months, and 37 percent in the last year.

Experts believe gold prices will keep rising as the U.S. increases import taxes, raising fears of higher prices for goods.

Many countries are also focusing on protecting their own economies, increasing risks in global trade. As a result, gold is seen as the safest heaven, and its price is expected to cross $3,000 per ounce soon.

At the same time, many central banks, especially in BRICS countries, are buying more gold to reduce dependence on the U.S. dollar. Because of these factors, gold prices continue to rise in both the international and Nepali markets.
